Duties & Responsibilities

a. Performing procedures for which the Aide’s training has provided the necessary skills.

b. Inform Clinical Director or Clinical Supervisor of changes in client’s conditions.

c. Document care given, observations and treatments.

d. Comply with policies and procedures of facility.

e. Insure that facility and client’s equipment, supplies and belongings are safe guarded.

f. Provide personal care to include:

1. Oral care including dentures.

2. Assistance with personal hygiene.

3. Skin care including foot care and back-rubs.

4. Bathing (shower, tub, bed or sponge).

5. A.M. and P.M. care.

6. Feeding.

7. Turning & positioning.

g. Answering call lights.

h. Assisting clients with ambulation with/without assistant devices

i. Make bed (occupied and unoccupied).

j. Offering bed pans and urinals. 

k. Collecting urine and stool specimens as directed.

l. Measuring and recording I&O. 

m. Taking and recording BP, temperature, pulse and respiration.

n. Maintaining clean and safe environment for clients.

o. Performing the following tasks when properly trained and/or under the direct supervision of an RN or LPN:

1. Applying hot water bottles.

2. Applying ice bags.

3. Assisting in preparing client for surgery.

4. Giving enemas. 

5. Administering oxygen by cannula or mask.

6. Applying restraints (by direct order of Supervisor or when a doctor’s order exists).

7. Providing post-mortem care.

p. Ensure and protect clients’ rights and maintain confidentiality.

q. The following tasks are considered essential functions of the position:

1. Lifting unspecified weights, depending on assignment requirements.

2. Bending and stooping to prepare equipment and materials for treating clients or managing the client’s environment.

3. Transferring, turning and positioning clients and assisting clients in walking and moving from place to place

  • High school diploma
  • Current CNA license for the state in which you practice
  • Minimum one year experience as Certified Nurses Aide in supervised setting within three (3) years
